People still weren't aware of what cinema could really do, instead of just putting the theatre, vaudeville, and circus performance in the frame, with little or no narratives, which our current film-student-graduate-films are close to, but not the same.
Experimental cinema extracts the narratives or, being technical, they break them, which is based upon the narrative cinema’s existence.
At that time, 1895, the story film, obviously, was not quite a concept, but it's fairly good though to see such an ambitious way to explore what the images can really do.
