我好想念Goran写在前面,Cristobal和Esther加一块儿都没有Goran好玩。
另外我诚心觉得海报上的瞪眼芳使贵剧流失了一大批天朝潜在观众。okk Bill Hader becomes rad in North America now,但如果不是提前熟悉他,看到两季海报正常人应该都不会有什么探索欲望。
这他妈真的是一部很严肃的剧。如果《广告狂人》中心在于身份探索问题,那么Barry讲的就是身份面对问题。本质上依旧是【我是谁】那一套,只不过Barry作为标题人物又蠢又滑稽又可怜兮兮毫无欲望权力野心一般麦克白式白男主人公不这么写罢了。毕竟是个喜剧。
这一季我喜欢的点有很多——几乎就没有不喜欢的点,非要说的话我不是很buy in Gene在看到Janice尸体后的强烈长时间应激反应,too much,又不够theatrical,除了使Fuches顺利逃离现场以及再一步推进LA警局的愚蠢表现外,不晓得这样演绎想要达到的效果是什么。
比黑德自己导演的第五集里格外喜欢的几个无聊笑点:
1. Fuches给Barry的伤口涂强力胶。这真的是……几岁的编剧能想到这种脑洞*。
*后经证实——是40岁的比黑德。他跟编剧们pitch的时候整个writing room都嫌弃脸:NO。只有我超吃这种智障笑点么哭了。
2. Ronny的小女儿(剧集标题里叫Lily)明明捅了Barry三刀,结果背上的伤口只有一个。这种再明白不过的bug更凸显了第五集doesn’t give a fuck的神经病气质。
3. Barry被捅后从房子里出来,往车子处走的途中血迹从伤口处一点点渗下来直到流满整个后背的长度——不那场景一点儿都不惨烈,非常低调,非常真实,结合后面Barry一边狂喊Im dying一边被Fuches各种忽视折磨的剧情,就完完全全长在我的笑点上。
Sally第一次在化妆间里坦白,真实的故事是自己从未反抗过前夫的家暴,并询问Barry的意见,关于她应该在戏剧里呈现哪个版本,Barry想都没想就告诉她,讲那个虚构的、但是勇敢的版本。大部分时候人类是极难依靠向同类暴露自己的脆弱性生存的——这既违反天性又没有必要——然而承认甚至臣服于自己的天性又有着极大的伴随着屈辱的诱惑;但Barry的天性碰不得,一旦揭开就血流成河那种,因此他逃避遮掩得理所当然,以至于劝告Sally时他的眼神和语气都是两季以来最真挚最笃定的。他,好,可,怜。考虑到本剧只有Barry和Sally两个复杂角色,Barry作为标题人物戏剧性的困境的唯一参照就是Sally所应代表的常人的困境,然而后者的复杂性暂时却又完全是围绕女性意识这一主题建立的,因此很难讲这个参照系是否足够——这么说就又回到了【好的流行影视作品中女性角色再丰满也只能代表女性群体】这一我最近才开始察觉并不满的问题,Barry所代表的是【戏剧性角色】,而不是【戏剧性男性角色】,他的困境是夸张化荒诞化的整个人类群体性问题,没有性别特征,如果一定要找一个女性角色来做他的参照系,Sally所应代表的应该仅仅是【相对戏剧性较弱、其困境更贴近生活的角色】,而非如此这般的【女性角色】。不过大概社会现状是女性群体的生活困境讨论离不开性别身份叭……这件事上男人真是占了大便宜,实现了真正意义上的【性别符号自由】,关于男人的故事都是关于【人性】的故事,而女人的故事则是关于【女性】的故事。怎么说呢,这也算是一种进步了,有而不足总比完全没有好。
不喜欢的点和上一季差不多——其实不算不喜欢,只能说客观上承认的不足——30分钟短剧所带来的人物群像塑造不能,从Goran、NoHo Hank到Gene与Fuches本质上都是罐头角色,虽然我超级享受每一个角色的鲜明特质、搞笑情节以及演员们的精彩演出,但罐头就是罐头,如果这部剧的定位想要比喜剧更严肃一些,那么只能说Bill Hader和Alec Berg偷懒了。情节的娱乐性和戏剧性都太强,某种程度上可以被称作【莎士比亚式的手撕鬼子】,艺术性主要通过符号化表达来实现,各种前后呼应就差没一盆子扣到观众脸上了,没有那种后劲很爽的伏延千里的细腻感。但这是半小时一集、一季才8集的喜剧啊,已经这么精彩且融洽了,还要什么自行车。
Barry这个角色的画风一直很跳:跟marine corps的buddies们在一起的时候完全不awkward,特别正常直男大兵,跟theater classmates在一起时则时而活泼尴尬时而温吞沉默但永远受气包,做杀手时好像话很少很社恐,却又经常小贱贱deadpool附体烦人级别话痨。可能毕竟是30分钟喜剧叭,然而标题人物又要有其复杂性,dramatic character和comedy archetype集于一身导致的画风跳跃不可避免。其实Fleabag第二季在面临同样跳斩时就做的就很好——但Fleabag自身是讲述者,可以通过其第一视角将她的故事讲圆,而Barry是很典型的被观察者,观众通过怜悯他而非通过成为他来理解角色,因此角色性格里讲不圆的地方就像我们观察身边熟人们的不合理行径,只能任其存在了。
最后就是我万万没有想到Bill Hader真的可以演戏。我心目中最好的戏剧角色都是需要有古怪的喜剧气质的——他在饰演Barry的过程中,除了少数一些小品罐头化了的喜剧片段,大部分时候能保持这种正剧张力与诡异感交融的平衡。我好爱他,我的爱又贬值了,两毛都卖不出去了,over。

这剧的剪辑有多神经病呢:Hank和Cristobal以及缅甸女大佬Esther初次会谈那场戏,所有人都在狂笑,下一个镜头直接切到Barry去拜访Gene,门廊飘来室内歌剧播放的声音,而前一场的笑声音轨和男性美声歌唱的颤音无缝衔接。真的有病,我喜。
According to Sasha: Barry got all excited because he thought lululemon was a candy store lmao how could I miss that joke at first time watching it!! Barry is such a baby!!!
另外比黑德跟Sasha飙英音那里太贱了太snl了而且比黑德作为罕见的一口标准cockney的天赋异禀美国人这里故意讲超拙劣british accent对不起我真的出戏。
夸夸主创主演编剧导演本人:比黑德瘦了,第一季的双下巴没了,颧骨和cheek dimples更明显了,(划掉)虽然发际线也更光明磊落了(划掉),总之爹爹好帅!第二集AM I EVIL车内大特写睫毛好浓密好长!第三集的几次舞台黑幕独白穿着Henley shirt身材很好的样子,眼睛亮亮的,气质超沉着镇静,全剧颜值巅峰!第一集OP shooting那段回忆里的Barry好嫩啊,尤其是蹲在地上被队友们敲头盔庆祝的镜头,年轻得跟加CGI了一样,好像05年刚来snl的大眼刘海小动物芳,整个人都笑盈盈的呆呆的,好可爱呜呜。
下面这个梗我没有看出来,比黑德自曝:
I really like when the voices of the guys chanting Barry Berkman come in, which is a line—I don’t know if you picked up on this, but it was the Ryan chant from episode one in the pilot. The “Bar-ry Berk-man!” So it’s a callback to that.
另外,Fuches第一季被打掉的牙(他还嚷嚷着要去捡呢!)本季成为警方关键线索,居然不是提前埋好的包袱:
Fuches’s tooth was the thing that came because our props guy was like, “Well, Fuches gets his tooth knocked out so where do you want me to put this?” And me and Alec both kind of looked at each other and we’re like, “Oh, my God, that’s great,” because we were doing the scene of the cops cleaning up the Pazar scene, you know?
Oh, yeah.
HADER: And they were like, “Where should I put the tooth?” And we were like, “Oh, my God, they’ll have Fuches’s tooth.” We didn’t even think about that. Certain things kind of present themselves, you know?

这集我最喜欢的点居然是Jermaine黑了一把Eric——第一季Janice审讯表演班三个高个儿时Jermaine就跟Barry说觉得Eric最可疑,结果这都多久过去了,Eric讲述自己的童年辛酸史Jermaine还要贫嘴一句他最后变成了一个杀人犯——就,有病啊哈哈哈哈哈哈。
AM I EVIL时比黑德的小眼神我心碎了,看一遍碎一遍Barry真是个柔软天真自私任性不负责任的小孩儿。其实看到第三遍才开始怀疑这段情节的前提合理性——Barry怎么能对Hank问出这句话呢?他问出口之前期待后者如何回答呢?这一行为可能就只有【Barry真的很脆弱很幼稚】可以解释了叭,折磨他的问题他不想自己面对,Fuches不在,Hank就是唯一知晓他阴暗面的人。这个白痴。
另外Hank的“Absolutely!!!”是Anthony Carrigan的即兴发挥哈哈哈哈哈哈,本来剧本里写着"No, you're not evil",结果Anthony就很喜欢fooling around,比黑德当场就被噎到了。因为笑果太好,而且这个答复更能凸显Barry【可怜的】【恶人】之矛盾,就保留下来了。Bill在无数采访里都提到Hank这个角色的第二季行为/台词基本都是Anthony自己设计的,此外他还特别喜欢每一个take都improv不一样的角度,后来那个神他妈“king of suck balls mountain”也是Anthony先信口胡来"my guys suck balls"的结果——剧本里写的是"my guys are shit","if i'm shit, you're the king of shit mountain",跟【舔蛋蛋山大王】相比黯然失色。
结论:秃秃就是最可爱的。秃秃要是死了贵剧等着收刀片儿叭。
片尾缅甸庙室内夜戏,怎么说呢,我觉得电视剧的摄影再好也只是电视剧,并没有被村井浩震撼到。这种极弱的不稳定光源近几年被Justin Kurzel搞得太妙了,索菲亚科波拉在翻拍《牡丹花下》里对自然烛光的运用也美到眩晕,相比之下Barry这里完全没有魔力,Bill在纽约客采访时好一顿吹村井这场戏拍得多棒,我:???但另一方面,Barry在舞台上帮同学演戏的部分,镜头角度明显跟Bill执导的几集不同,村井是自斜下方向上拍的长焦,把Barry拍得特好看,Bill自己拍舞台戏基本都是方方正正的广角,刻意突出人工舞台的存在感,结果就是尬演效果格外明显。怎么说呢,作为喜剧,加上Barry和整个表演班都是bad actors,Bill的思路是没错的,但我第一次看这部剧在油管上的片段时,也真的被其朴素程度劝退了。如果不是因为后来看了Mulaney和Bill在92Y那场笑到头掉的panel discussion,我可能都不会看这部剧。相反,村井这样的摄影思路一眼看过去就很HBO,不说艺术性也至少有足够的精良程度了。
最后Barry真正意义上过街老鼠人人喊打式一路连滚带爬逃命的场景,太惨了,太惨了太惨了太惨了。虽然你知道他活该,Chris和Janice都说杀就杀,(哀嚎:还有宇宙无敌大可爱Goran呜呜呜),却不忍心杀Esther——当然了人物发展上讲很合理,因为第一季结尾都starting now了嘛(……哈哈,哈哈,哈哈),也因为Sally说she's never gonna be with a violent man again,还因为本集片头Barry的existential crisis已经严重到问Hank的程度了,不杀Esther确实是他此刻会作出的选择——但客观角度来讲还是很蠢!Barry你个大白痴!!!然而也不知道是被流弹崩了还是撞车时骨折了最后捂着肚子像条狗狗似的一瘸一拐走进自家院子的Barry好可怜喔。好想摸摸他又笨又呆的大脑袋。也就比黑德叭换一个人演我肯定被这么笨的主角气死了。
本集Sally的戏份看起来有点儿不着调,季终后回看,这集的铺垫棒极了。她不是一开始就打算说谎的,但在Gersh被浇了一桶冷水后,Gene对她剧本原型故事选择的追问让她感到被push了,她又是一个在紧张情况下死要面子的人——我他妈真的好能理解Sally她站在舞台上叉着腰号称老娘LA独立女性代言人那副强行厚着脸皮又心虚的样子简直就是我本人。
另外一个很好玩的地方是,Barry的白日梦里Sally永远穿的像60年代家庭女性,布料很沉的无袖伞型连衣裙之类的,都是很贤淑优雅的打扮,而Sally本人的穿衣风格完全是南加小文青,超级laidback,波点blouser配背带裤,纯色shirt外面随便套一件jacket,小松果项链,各种不及膝的宽松碎花裙,各种条纹衫和直筒牛仔裤,怎么舒服怎么来,连高跟鞋都不太穿的。丫的我好想念加州。

这集title seq神来之笔人尽皆知,然而Bill并不记得是他还是Alec想的哈哈哈哈。
Gene的儿子带着草莓来看望他,作为人渣父亲的Gene受宠若惊,问what makes you changed your mind,儿子说,you made an effort。又是一个巨大的扎心。Barry made a lot of efforts,但没有人因此就改变了对他是一个杀人犯的看法。大概【为钱杀人】和【做一个混蛋父亲】两件事性质的严重程度上不可同日而语。
本集Barry再度情绪失控、差点儿杀了Sam后,想找Fuches谈心却遭拉黑(哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈),以至于不得不去找了Gene——后者就是在此刻真正替代了前者在Barry心目中父亲的位置。尽管前者拉黑他也是为他好——但这不能掩盖Fuches是个人渣的事实;尽管后者陪他谈心还要收课时费——但Gene依然是个抠门可爱鬼。与Gene坦白自己在伊拉克(阿富汗??)杀掉无辜平民一事,是整个两季Barry最脆弱的时刻(这场戏里他整个就是个小宝宝啊),这是唯一一次,他没有欺骗任何人,甚至没有用盲目的乐观欺骗自己。在此之前他一直告诉自己i'm a good person,(划掉)然而Hank都说了do i not tell you that enough? you're the most evil guy i've ever seen哈哈哈哈哈哈哈哈(划掉),他不敢直面自身的黑暗,他对Gene此前指导他演戏时要他释放自己的“inherent darkness”这一用词格外敏感——他的回应是"it's not inherent"我他妈笑死了——而这一次在Gene的引导下,他再次问出do you think i'm a bad person,Gene没有骗他说,不,我不认为你是个坏人,我认为你是个好人——作为观众我们知道Barry is a fucking serial murderer and he got away with it, EVERY SINGLE TIME,而Gene就连听闻战场上那一次都觉得shock the conscience——相反,Gene很真诚地告诉他,【i think you're deeply human】。丫的要不是我没有相同困扰这应该是本剧最催泪时刻了。For sure Barry is a bad person, he kills people for money, but he's also deeply human, he's not proud of it——这是整部剧的灵魂。就像Gene当然是个坏父亲,但他获得了被儿子原谅的机会,因为他尝试过求取原谅;因此Gene告诉Barry,小朋友你也一样喔,虽然你做了很坏很坏的事,但我们只能希望human can change their nature!! ONE CAN ONLY HOPE!!! 而这正是Barry这一季需要相信的。上一季他所相信的是,自己是个好人,结果Chris和Moss之死让他无法再相信这个鬼话了;这一季他相信的是,okk我不是好人,但我会变好的,人性是可以改变的,结果季尾大屠杀。再说一遍Bill Hader & Alec Berg你俩人渣。
另外Sally和Sam的剧情,我真的受够了有些人说Sally绿茶的智障言论了。Sally对Sam剩下的只有(对自己过去软弱的)羞耻、(意识到自己如今面对Sam依然不够坚强的)不甘心和本能恐惧,哪有一丁点留恋的意思?是啊Sally显然也不够考虑Barry的感受(上一季I LOVE YOU教学法时Gene让Barry倾听作为对手戏演员Sally的情绪,明白I LOVE YOU的画外音是你滚叭我们没戏,显然这一季Barry对Sally说出i'm Barry Block and I'm an actor的时候,Sally根本没有倾听他的情绪,不明白他的画外音是he's NOT Barry Block and he's NOT an actor),但那又怎么样呢SHE'S A FUCKING NARCISSIST她的世界里当然只有她自己,她不是一个讨人喜欢的角色,但这跟绿茶有什么关系??Barry如果不是个白痴他就应该意识到he's obsessed with a self-obsessed person,但他就是个白痴,他喜欢这样,他的朋友们,从Fuches到Albert(部队里那个亚裔,是叫这个名字么)到Gene到acting class上那一群戏精,都他妈的是self-obsessed people,都在利用他榨取他,但也喂养一点点爱给他。对他来说这一点点就足够了。他是奉献型的人类,他low self esteem,他最该配的就是Sally这种索取型的ego爆棚的人类。不过Barry这种人类真的是快绝种了我这辈子只认识一个,and she's a girl;相反Sally这种人满大街都是,可笑的是自己还都不承认,大概是受不了看着Sally就仿佛照镜子的羞耻感叭。
本集最好笑:第一次看时当然是最后Loach的要求(the title for this episode is "what?!" and i was like "艹?!"),然而这次看,好像觉得Fuches挂在阳台外边举步维艰镜头一切Barry就从地面爬到四楼阳台更好笑。Barry是什么东西超人么,比黑德就是在强行给自己加体力很好的暗示(。)
最后Barry对着Fuches一脸获救重生般充满希望地像小孩子一样讲着废话,转过头看到Loach举枪对着自己,那一刻的笑意消失,让人看了好伤心啊。
另外,这集Barry跟Gene说他提前从德国出院并退役是因为有个family friend pulled some strings and got him out of the hospital,我第一次看时居然没反应过来他说的就是Fuches……不然他还哪来的别的family friend?其实Fuches一开始把他搞出来只是单纯地想帮帮他,从一个从小看着长大的dumb kid现在还是PTSD老兵身上,Fuches能得到什么好处呢?无非是履行长辈的责任罢了。不过Fuches实在本性太渣,一旦发现了Barry身上有利可图,就毫不留情地利用了。照这么说如果Barry真的毫无一技之长就好了,或许Fuches对他的关爱还能纯粹一点。
另另外,Henry Winkler太妙了,什么话从他嘴里说出来都格外动人,Bill都被他喂出了奥斯卡级别的受伤小动物演技——当Gene说出"... and toDAY he brought me sTRAWbeRRIES!"时我真实被感动到。这几乎是整部剧最暖的一句话,听完好想吃草莓。
附一个Sally线的形成,俩白男主创有did their research,以及我真的不介意第三季给Sarah加戏:
Yeah. I mean, the episode is incredibly tense and it’s dealing with very sensitive subject matter. How did those conversations about Sally’s abuse and her reaction to seeing her abuser again manifest in the writers room, and then how did they evolve or change once you get Sarah involved and get on set?
HADER: I have people very close to me in my life who’ve been victims of domestic violence and so I was able to talk to them. One of them actually works with women who have been abused so it was kind of like sending them the Sally story and going, “Does this track? Does this make sense?” Some of the stuff we got out of that was this thing of somebody saying when you see [the abuser] it’s not like they run away or they’re really strong. They actually just try to be cool with them. That person has a weird power over them. And look, Alec and I are just two white guys. We don’t know much about this, so we asked a lot of women what they thought and everyone had different experiences or different ideas, but the consensus was that this was pretty honest.
And then bringing Sarah over, she’s incredibly tuned and incredibly smart. I really like this scene that Sarah came up with where she’s about to go see Sam and she looks in the mirror, starts to check her hair and stops and is like “What am I doing?” I really liked that scene, but we had to cut it because of time, because we wanted to keep the pacing up. But that was a really, really tough one to lose and Sarah had come up with it and I really liked it.
As long as it just is feeling honest, and the fact that she goes back up there and I think, immediately, regrets it, and is like, “Why the hell am I up here?” Some people might say, “Well who cares if she lied about how she left him?” I mean we have Barry go, “You still left.” Her thing is saying “No, but I lied.” For her and how she feels about herself, she wants to be strong. She wants to see herself as someone who’s strong and you, in this episode, realize how much she had made up this character of Sally, of herself, by coming to L.A.
Definitely.
HADER: She says in Episode 2, “Do you think I play weak women because I was weak in my marriage? No. I’m not that fucking person. I’m independent.” And I love that scene in this episode because then Barry’s like “We can lie together.” Like you can be whoever you say you are. Come over to the dark side with me.
化妆间镜子前那场戏绝对是Barry两季最温柔最光环的时刻,但他在向Sally推销一个很快他就将自己推翻自己的谎言。Sally作为一个追求真实的艺术家显然没被他说动,然而最后艺术在舞台上输给了谎言所能带来的鼓舞人心的力量与掌声,这未尝是件坏事儿;谎言推销者却拿起枪重新面对真实的自我,那件事糟透了。
我就想知道最初把Sally设定成暴力受害者,然后让她说出i’ll never ever be with a violent man again,是Bill还是Alec的主意。真他妈又好笑又悲凉。更好笑的是Sally的arc,她的谎言(坚强)与真实(软弱),完全是围绕暴力受害者这个身份建立的。她和Barry在人物概念上既是平行(两人都有各自的谎言与真实)又是因果(暴力施加者-受害者),定义二人的角色核心却不是他们在叙事上相遇甚至交往的原因,这不是冥冥之中是什么,(喔对了是寓言),太妙了太妙了。
看了这个我基本上默认是芳了:
She’s so good. And there’s a lot of Barry and Sally both basically lying to themselves out loud this season. And then here Barry’s trying to help her and say like, “Look, I’m fine. Do like me.”
HADER: Yeah. “I’m Barry Berkman. I’m an actor.”
Yeah.
HADER: And, yeah, he’s not. (laughing) But he’s telling himself he is. I think the whole season is about people just trying to escape their nature. It’s what Cousineau says at the end of the episode, “I think we can change our nature and if we can’t, then God help us.” I think Sally’s trying to change this nature with this guy in it and trying to be vulnerable, because it’s terrifying for her to be vulnerable. That was the thing. To talk about that is terrifying. To admit that is a very terrifying thing and that was something that people that I know in my life who’ve gone through this said. It’s not an easy thing to talk about and then just to admit it to yourself and then to admit it to the person that you’re dating. And now Sally’s gonna have to get up on stage and talk about it. It’s what being an artist is supposed to be I guess, when you share these really awful traumatic things, you have to cut through all the shit to get to who you actually are and doing that can be terrifying. And is it worth it in the end? Those are the kind of questions that are interesting to us and that’s kind of like what Barry’s saying. “You don’t have to. Just lie.”
But Barry’s a perpetrator of violence and Sally’s a victim of violence and they’re dating and they’re both lying to each other about it. They’re trying to tell themselves this thing and it gets into a bigger question of “Do we do that all the time in everyday life?” And is that easier? You know, the whole truth exercise that Cousineau wants to do, is that even a real thing? Can you actually do that?

Gene and Fuches,你为自己争取的世界与你本来所属于的世界,两个父亲角色的相遇。(啊!命运!)当Gene说出他在Barry人生中居于一个怎样的指引者/宽慰者地位的时候,Fuches的眼神都气直了——其实Gene这么说也未必是有多关爱Barry,他为Barry“自豪”或许是真的,但对外人吹捧自己能使可怜小孩迷途知返也是真的,最终还是为了满足他自己的自尊心。The theater is a fucking shrine of him,Barry只是他众多followers之中比较重要的一个罢了——他之所以好像对Barry和Sally格外关注,正是因为这两人经历过更多破烂事儿,精神上更依赖于他,他也从这种人生导师的角色扮演中获得更多满足感。当然了我还是很喜欢Gene的!人非圣贤谁不自私!Henry Winkler演自恋刻薄老头儿也是最可爱的!另一方面,Fuches之所以那么嫉妒Gene取代了他自以为在Barry生命中的位置——“自以为”,是因为Fuches在此之前从未意识到Barry根本不在精神上认可自己,以至于Gene会形容Fuches羽翼下的Barry像个风中飘零的塑料袋,而听到Gene这么说Fuches气到冒烟儿——那是不是说明Fuches还是有一点点爱Barry的呢?不过这种人的爱一毛钱都不值。
Barry在给Gene打电话后听到Fuches的声音,先是惊恐得芳式瞪眼,然而接下来说出i'll go back to Cleveland and i'll kill again, please don't hurt Mr. Cousineau时眼神一下子就软了,又伤心又楚楚可怜(不是),但实际上那一瞬间Bill Hader的表情根本没有大变化。怪不得2019 Emmy还是给他。虽然他肯定更想要导演奖哈哈哈哈哈哈。
Lindsey这个角色很棒,敏感、真诚、不敢为自己争取话语权,就连支持Sally都要说成自己只是凭借作为agent的直觉行事,如果说第一季的Natalie还只是个在Sally身边负责搞笑的罐头角色,这一季的Lindsey则已经发展出独立人格了,虽然其主要作用依然是用female & junior agent的双重“弱势”身份来衬托双Mikes作为vested males的自大愚蠢。怎么说呢,可以但没必要,双mikes连带着本集的Aaron Ryan这种丑角影视作品里太多见了,【令人讨厌的智熄白男】这一标签现在比WASP的存在本身更令人讨厌——如果Sally只是一个典型标签化Karen白婊,像第一季前四集表现出来的那样,我可能会直接弃剧,还好她实际上足够复杂足够好玩,Sarah Goldberg这集里的泳池monologue我已经可以背下来了,Sally对whenever a woman says anything these days it automatically becomes “what are we saying about women?”这一现象一边吐槽加嫌弃一边考虑成为face of the movement简直是神来之笔,我甚至觉得这一段之后Sally的character arc已经超出了大闷葫芦Barry。而且Sally/Barry的关系虽然一点儿都不浪漫,但是很健康啊,还有什么比Barry听完Sally那一大长串自私发言后完全不为所动继续hey ike you shitbird you wanna little pie更好的反应了么。Every Sally needs a Barry, period.

Aaron Ryan给Sally展示Payback Ladies概念海报时跟她说she should be playing this one,指的是右下角那个性感跪姿的角色。是故意这么设计的叭,让观众能格外relate Sally被恶心到了的反胃程度。
Hank在barbecue van上的“临终”独白虽然好笑,其实也说明他和Barry & Sally一样挣扎在【他想成为的人】vs【他不得不成为的人】之间。呜呜Hank这个角色第三季难道也要复杂起来了么,我不接受,我想要Hank一直保持漫画智障小天使啊啊啊啊。

上一集是两个父亲的相遇,这一集则是两个儿子的通话。编剧集体强迫症叭。
又一处本剧的寓言式操作。Fuches to Cristobal:不要跟Hank打了,你不想真做murderer,doing it, pulling the trigger, that takes someone with no soul。这句话在这场戏的语境里完全没有意义,黑帮头目如Cristobal杀人越货当然家常便饭,所以这句话完全就是在向观众展示Fuches对Barry的看法。靠。Barry好可怜好可怜好可怜,连Fuches都觉得他没有灵魂。但Fuches依然怀念和Barry在一起的日子,接下来他说Cristobal和Hank就像两块拼图that don't fit anymore的言论,依然是实际上在讲自己与Barry的关系。
双手放下我爱Bill Hader全部两毛钱都给他。Barry最后血洗缅甸据点时踹一扇门踹不开,用枪破坏了门锁又踹一脚才打开,然而这次腿又卡在门的破洞里了拔不出来差点儿闪到老腰——Barry真的一点!都!不!酷!这种在戏剧高潮依然要让主角不忘【滑稽而猥琐的喜剧人物】本色而非把他塑造成反英雄酷盖的Bill Hader式骚操作才是最酷的!世界上哪存在什么酣畅淋漓的帅气瞬间啊我好爱他。
第一遍看时完全误解了的点:Barry关上后备箱前好像对Janice的尸体做了什么,第一次看以为只是闲笔,完全没和后面Hank送给Barry的the debt has been paid的车臣徽章在Janice尸体上发现联系起来——我还以为是时间线bug,原来就是Barry本集开头留下的栽赃证物。所以他才会一遍遍给警局打电话确认Gene案件的最新结果,因为他知道LA条子水平再烂也最终会发现那个pin,因此最后一通电话听到Gene的儿子告诉他Gene已经被解除嫌疑释放后Barry的表情明显不是惊讶和喜悦,而是极度悲伤后仅剩的欣慰感——这个表情真的超微妙,他对自己做的安排解救了Gene感到满意,简直下一秒就可以撒手人寰了。妈的看到Bill做这个表情我要哭死了。
对于Barry来说这是此时唯一的安慰,他甚至都不继续装做Barry Block了,他决定做回Barry Berkman——他在与Gene儿子通电话之初介绍自己是Barry Block,通话末尾对方再次确认他姓名时,他改口说叫Berkman,点题这集episode title Berkman>Block。
所以第一次看时觉得没必要的结尾大屠杀(对季终效果很有必要,对人物发展没必要),现在看来非常合理且必要,Barry自己都认为和Barry Block不同,Barry Berkman不配拥有救赎,那么在yield to后者之后他的人生算是就此宣告失败,回归道德的希望结束,那么临死前干掉Fuches,无论以多少无辜性命为代价,又算得了什么呢。
又是一个对比组——本季Sally是决定真实做自己的那个人,所以她讲的是真实的故事,她被家暴后从未反抗的故事,而Barry则一直instinctively telling himself he's Barry Block, he's an actor,自欺欺人,因此本季开头Barry的生活状态其实还不错;而结局却是Sally站在更大的舞台上没有勇气讲述真实,而是讲出了那个她编造的关于自己勇敢反抗的故事,然而这个虚假的故事却大获成功,相反Barry则不得不重新退回真实的自己,彻底没救了。所以,谎言>真实,对于在这个世界上正常生存来说,是件好事情。至于真实>谎言,Berkman>Block,代价就是走进黑暗长廊,(再说一百遍)我爱片尾演职员滚动字幕时无尽的暴风雨。
说到Sally,fake story的大获成功让她从此以后也不得不keep it fake了,从这一刻起她才真正意义上和Barry处在了同一境地,然而他俩也玩完了(Sally扇Barry一巴掌后的Barry视角Sally慢动作静音特写,典型的代表人物关系碎裂陌生化手法,如果下一季开头Barry还什么事儿没有回去舔狗Sally我就要怀疑Bill Hader身为创作者的professional integrity了),Lindsey则成为了和她一同背负这个谎言的保守秘密的人。P.S. Lindsey在首演当夜边给Sally加油鼓劲边心里没底到撕纸太好玩了,这种neurotic moment我永远能relate。

以及Cristobal死了??他才和Hank夫夫复合两人差点儿没当众make out了,居然就死了???Hank下一季又要孤苦伶仃了不能50/50 with Cristobal了,小可怜。
至于车臣神枪手小哥的死,不用说,以Bill Hader的尿性,这个角色一开始写出来就肯定是为了做Barry的protege然后被Barry杀死的。我现在个人mentally cope with这部剧的方式就是告诉自己这玩意儿走寓言路线,生活本身不是这么简单粗暴荒谬残忍的。太残忍了史小芳你个变态我爱你。
Bill Hader曾在访谈节目中提到过他非常喜欢的一部剧:Snapped。通常是讲女人如何杀死自己丈夫的,他提到剧里一个片段:一个男人打了911说,那什么,我老婆射了我一枪,不过我把枪拿走了,我没事了,我们都没事了。警方说:那你们家有没有第二把枪?然后男人说:嗯,没有吧,我感觉应该没有……不对,我们有……然后电话挂断了。Bill Hader说虽然这男人被谋杀了,但他在地球的最后一刻是“comedy gold”。
看到这段访问大概能了解为什么这部剧集的幽默感往往带着诡异,而当镜头聚焦人物通常是边缘人物,这种聚焦显得犀利却又不乏悲悯。
Barry—被需要VS被接纳
Barry其实并不只是在杀手和演员两种职业之间做选择,而是在被需要和被接纳两种状态中做选择。
Barry在写自己的故事剧本时,他形容第一次杀人的感受:“有史以来第一次有了目标感,团队感。”而绝非他的演艺班同学想象的杀人后的彷徨失措。回忆中,所有战友围着他欢呼,Barry说这是他人生最棒的一天,觉得棒当然不是因为杀人,而是他这么些年来第一次感到被需要。
老江湖Fuches看到了Barry的这种技能可为他所用,开启了Barry退役的杀手生涯,Barry会接受这样的安排,需要谋生是一点,还有一点Barry并不愿意承认的是, Fuches在很长一段时间对Barry是父亲一样的存在。
遇到表演训练班的同学之后,与其说Barry被表演这个行业吸引,不如说他厌倦了这种基于被需要而存在的关系,身处这群渴望成名的无名演员中,Barry感到了被接纳。在一次深度的自我挖掘中,Barry向班主任Gene敞开心扉,聊起了他曾在战场试图救人最后演变成滥杀无辜的惨剧,Gene震惊后安慰他:你固然做了可怕的事,但这并不能完全定义你。
Barry在那一刻哭得像个孩子,之后又开心得像个孩子,急不可耐地跑去向Fuches诉说:我不用被我做过的糟糕的事所定义,我可以主宰这些事。是的,确实有那么一刻,Barry在fucked-up的人生看到了微光。
只是这种微光注定难以持久,同学们和Gene对Barry的接纳是有限的,是基于对一位从战场上退役后普通老兵的接纳,而非对于一边杀人一边演戏的双面Barry的接纳,这种有限的接纳将会在Barry真实身份曝光后荡然无存——Gene在第二季结尾已然得知Janice死亡的真相,同时Barry因为愤恨Fuches的作为而失控开启了一场屠戮,如旧日重演,只是杀伤力破坏力指数倍升级。这意味着Barry不断试图逃离,却始终被他自己困在原地。
Sally—强大VS真实
Sally这个人物在第二季里慢慢立了起来,因为她对于过去对于自己的那种纠结:到底要展现给观众强大的/幻想中的自己,还是真实的/脆弱不堪的自己。
毫无疑问她在上一段婚姻中是家暴受害者,可她潜意识里为自己感到羞愧,羞愧自己一直默默忍受,羞愧自己逃离时也没有反抗。
这种羞愧让她在之后的岁月面对这段回忆时,开始了自我保护的幻想:幻想自己反抗前夫的虐待,幻想自己主动地强硬地结束了这段关系。
她在Barry的鼓励下愿意演出故事的另一个版本,一个混乱、脆弱又真实的版本,一个没有对着前夫大吼我要离开你,而是前夫道歉后她回应我爱你的版本。在Barry的托戏下,这个版本得到同学和Gene的好评。
但当经纪人要把这一幕搬到更大的舞台,面对更多更专业的观众时,Sally再度惊慌失措,她并没有做好准备在这么多人面前自我暴露,不自觉地退回了初始状态,她改变了真实故事的走向,演出了自己从没有在前任面前说出的独立宣言,但这个宣言应该在她心里酝酿太久,未经彩排也一气呵成。
有趣的是,这种表达赢得了所有人的认可与拥戴,大概是现实生活中无能为力的时刻太多,人们才那么渴望在戏剧中看到令人振奋的反抗。
其实,Barry说得很对,Sally最终离开了前夫才是最重要的。离开这段婚姻她后能够在L.A.自力更生,并且并没有对新的亲密关系产生不适,足以说明她的复原能力。可能是希望与过去的自己彻底划清界限,她在两季尤其第二季表现出来的女性意非常强烈,比如虽然想要在演艺圈立足但拒绝与前经纪人发生工作以外的关系;比如她拒绝了著名制作人的“复仇黄片”;比如她在第七集的那段焦灼的独白。Sally始终对过去不够强大的自己耿耿于怀,可是没有被创伤击溃或被捷径诱惑,执着地想要等来一个自己真正喜欢作品的Sally,已经拥有了她所渴求的那种强大。

I'm terrified, okay? Because my piece is real. It's not a character, it's me. Raw, unapologetic truth with a capital T. All caps, actually, I'm thinking like a writer now.
I mean this was stuff I couldn't even talk about without lying, and here I am about just stripped naked in front of a bunch of strangers and share something I am massively ashamed of. Not literally, I don't believe in nudity, unless it drives the story forward.
I am afraid they're gonna judge me and I'm afraid that Sam is gonna find out and do something crazy, but I have to do this. It's my story to tell. But then so many other women have the same story. What, am I the spokesperson for them now? Could I be the face of the movement? I mean, what if I get it wrong? I resent the fact that Nick can get up there and talk about his stomach condition and it's not like he has to be the poster boy for bulimia but I get up there whatever I say it's like… "what are we saying about women?" … I mean, this is just MY STORY. "But what if you get it wrong, Sally?" "I don't know, you can't get it wrong Sally." "But you cannot tell either Sally, because it's who you are." Which makes the thing that my agent sent me on today so fucking insulting. 'Payback Ladies'? It's just another shit male idea of what strong women are. Oh oh ohh grab a gun and in some stilettos and it's gonna god damn blowout, and look how strong you are now! Sally! It's bullshit! Which by the way so is this, this is quite possibly the worst thing I've ever read, but you wanna know the worst part? You wanna know what's really driving me fucking crazy? I'm so jealous that you're reading for this, I've never had a director session for a feature, which is the same thing as a movie, P.S.. And I have been doing this for way longer, and I think you'd agree that I am way better. I… MADE YOU. And I'm actually represented by Gersh--well at least I was, I don't even know whether they rep me anymore after what I said in there today but still at least I held my ground because I am an artist, okay, an artist… and this is not fucking arts! But then, I mean, to be honest of course I am so happy for you! I mean, of course I want you to get this part and I want to be the one to help you learn your lines and fix your inflections but I need you to know that if you do get it, it's gonna make me like, like a hundred times more insane. Okay? … [Gasp.] Continue!
I'm okay with the fact that Sally doesn't really love Barry, not even a bit. She just feeds off Barry's indecisiveness and uses him as a bandage to cover her wound from both Sam and every other embodiment of "toxic musculanity" in her life; her intention for Barry is the same as what she said about Emma Stone's agent, that she wanted him to be her agent so that she could dump him when she got big. And I love the writing of Sally's character so much just because of that. She and Barry never really had a benign relationship, so what's the point of resenting her for being a bitch to him? Sally aspires for ascending. Barry takes pains in order for descending from a god-like place (which he was himself both unaware of and didn't know how to utilize) to the every-person mundaneness that Sally would give anything to leave behind.
Bill Hader is an instantaneously likeable person; the creator's monster, Barry Berkman, however, is not. The real touchstone of Barry's character is his absolute lack of character despite of him having the most sensational events of life. Even his dreams are so itchingly dull and devoid of intellectual self-reflection that it makes him pitiful to watch. To me, that's what makes Barry Berkman as should-be-just-another-male-leading-role in today's show industry utterly fanscinating; once they gave him a sharp character as if he were some kind of Macbethian anti-hero, all the magic would be lost. Indeed, the Barry/Macbeth parallel was drawn in Season One, but it was done so unpretentiously that it added almost nothing to our protagonist's personality; rather, it only spoke of the similarity between his real life tragics and the theatrical tragedy. That Barry had to go through partially what Macbeth did does not readily make him a Macbeth-like character. He is more ambivalent and less archetypical than that. He is the one left-out possibility of being a murderer that hasn't been discussed and tried out exhaustively up till now in the movie industry because of its unexcitedness. Sally, uncaring and narcissistic as she is, has no reason to see through the hollowness of his personality and learn that her boyfriend has been going through some shitty, incubating tormants and plights. (Actually there is more reason for her not to see that since her ignorance is a part of the comedy.) The transcendence from absurdity to ridicule is totally sensible to me, and it's so funny the moment you realize that how unrelatable yet sympathetic Barry's character is whereas how relatable yet obnoxious Sally's character is and that they are placed in a distanced, intimate relationship, struggling to move in two opposite directions while being stuck together in one storyline.
Barry is the freaking monster, who, I'm gonna say that again, could have been a god as he used to took lives without reason, mercy or regret but he chose to descend down towards the earth. Instead of turning into a human, he was forced by his humanity to become a monster. Sally is the most of the human race, who have been dreamt of ascending up towards the sky for tens of thousands of years. But they will never make it, neither will she--their monstrous cruelty keeps them safely tied to the ground while mutilating each other as human members. How can I help but name calling Barry and Sally as two ungrateful pieces of shit? As in the end they are both about just being the same person in different positions and over different time frames, I guess the joke is on me.
这部剧品质非常高,高在编剧,高在演员,高在很多地方。但它不会火,起码不像权游那么火,或者拿更相近的例子,不像嗜血法医那样火。 我想大概是那种真实感太强烈。那种幽默中透着诡异的感觉,反而突出了这种真实感,而巴瑞的人设注定是一个走向黑暗的结局,那些幽默点变成了戏剧性的悲凉。 想夸这剧的优点在于人物角色的塑造,barry,sally gene, fuches, noho,基本上笑点集中在noho身上,因为他真的好可爱。 barry在对待父亲角色上很难抗拒,这点在退役后被fuches带着杀人和接受gene指导演戏变成倾诉心事都能体现,另外他擅长杀人不代表他缺少人性,因为杀人技能被认可从而被集体接纳这恰恰说明他的人性,反社会人格并不在乎被接纳。 非常讽刺的是sally的反抗故事得到了人们认可,而她真实的软弱故事很难表现在大众面前,就算真的演,大众也可能因为这样真实的暴露而不适(这也是我认为为什么这部剧不会火的一个原因)。
我个人很喜欢gene这个角色,天然的导师,富有演戏的热情即使自己只能接路人排队的戏码也要演出两个版本,优雅自信幽默,但也感性温柔。会给人直接的批评帮助学生达到情绪,也会课后给他们演戏指导,一句话就能鼓励学生改变人生,但也视财如命,任何指导都算在账本里。他是个有缺点的好人。
相比fuches同样的father figure,就要难堪丑恶的多了,演员真的把那种装腔作势讨人厌的感觉演得太好,就是个混的,为了生存什么都干得出来,像是地下道里努力的老鼠。barry想脱离他就恼羞成怒陷害gene。
noho太可爱了,捡漏王,明明是个秃头,戴眼镜打电话为啥有种精英秘书的感觉。发型这事果然是看脸的。
